Why is your CV not working: Tips on creating the best CV.
Recruitment
Effective job application tips: know goals, use LinkedIn, follow up.
The Truthful fact is that many CV’s are not optimised correctly, your CV is often the first point of contact between you and potential employers. It's your opportunity to make a strong first impression. Follow our guide highlighting key points on why your CV might be ruining your job applications.
It is too long. Size does matter.
A CV shouldn’t be longer than 2 pages. Although you might think your CV needs to include everything about you, it doesn’t. Focus on refining your details and highlighting key points that are relevant to you professionally and the jobs you're applying for.
You haven’t read it. Attention to detail.
If you don’t read your CV, then how do you expect the Employer to. Many CV’s host a lot of problems such as spelling mistakes, repetition and even sentences that don’t make sense.
It is important to read and take time to understand your document, making sure there are no errors.
Don’t be too formal
Sounding overly formal and too robotic may come across as boring and sometimes looks like you don’t know what you're talking about. Try to adopt a professional but personal manner.
The format is all wrong
A great CV should be formatted and designed correctly, allowing for flow and easy navigation. The right format accounts to font, headings; the document format and even the design. Starting with the basics your CV should include:
- Contact details
- Profile statement
- Work experience
- Education
- Skills and achievements
- References
Personal statement is NOT working
At the top of most CV’s, a personal statement is detailed here. Your Personal statement should reflect you professionally while describing your ambitions, goals, and interest.
